Visual efficiency disorders

Visual efficiency disorders consist of a variety of vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, teaming disorders, focusing disorders, and tracking disorders. The most common efficiency disorders are focusing, binocularity (eye teaming), and tracking. Near focusing and flexibility focusing are required for an individual to process visual information up close and to shift visual focus from near to far. Binocularity is the ability to converge or turn the eyes inward to maintain clear vision up close and diverge the eyes to keep far targets in clear vision. Eye tracking is the ability to move the eyes from point to point (e.g., moving the eyes smoothly and accurately along a line of print). Therefore, these types of visual dis¬ orders can have profound effects on a student’s ability to achieve academically.
