Vulvovaginitis

Inflammation of the vulva (the external female genitals) and the vagina. Symptoms include redness, itching, and soreness of the vulva and vagina, sometimes accompanied by a vaginal discharge.


Inflammation of the vulva and vagina. It may be due to infection, and may be a presenting feature of late onset diabetes mellitus. Trauma or the presence of a foreign body is sometimes a cause.


Simultaneous inflammation of the vulva and vagina, or of the vulvovaginal glands. The condition may be due to chemical irritation produced by materials present in medications, tight-fitting or nonabsorbent underclothes, inadequate perineal hygiene, allergic conditions, or a variety of infectious agents including bacteria, yeasts, viruses, and parasites.


Vulvovaginitis refers to inflammation affecting both the vulva and vagina. This condition is frequently brought on by infections, including candidiasis (commonly known as thrush) and trichomoniasis.
