Wide-dynamic-range neurons

Neurons in the central nervous system that are activated by a variety of stimuli (both innocuous ones and noxious ones) and encode a wide range of stimulus intensities (some non-painful, some painful). They are the most numerous kind of nociceptive neurons in the central nervous system. Because they receive inputs from a large number of sources, they are also referred to as convergent neurons.
