An X-ray viewing of a blood vessel following injection of a dye.A medical test in which a contrasting material is injected into a deep artery in the body, such as in the groin or neck, and X-rays are taken as the material flows through the body. Angiograms can be used in many situations. In diagnosing brain tumors, they may help a physician to see the precise pattern of blood vessels in the brain and the amount of blood that may be feeding into a tumor. In diagnosing heart problems, angiography often involves insertion of a catheter through the groin or arm to check for abnormalities in the blood vessels and in various body organs, as well as sites of blood clots or internal bleeding. In diagnosing eye and vision problems, ophthalmologists sometimes use a technique called fluorescein retinal angiography or eye angiography, in which X-rays are taken of the eye, after injection of the dyed fluid and use of eyedrops to dilate (open) the pupils.Serial set of X rays taken of an artery or arteries following the injection of a radiopaque contrast medium; used to define the location and condition of an artery, such as the presence of atherosclerosis.Radiographic visualization after injecting a radiopaque contrast dye into the bloodstream, enabling the vessels to be "mapped," and identifying areas of narrowing or blockage.An X-ray examination of the blood vessels of the brain (cerebral) or kidneys (renal) after injection of contrast medium.A radiographic record of the size, shape, and location of the heart and blood vessels after introduction of a radiopaque contrast medium. A catheter is usually inserted into a peripheral vessel and guided to the affected area by use of the Seldinger technique. The recording can be either serial film or digital imaging.
</oembed>
