Drugs used to treat infections caused by fungi. Fungi are single-cell life forms that survive by invading and living off other living things. They thrive in moist, dark places, including some parts of the human body. Fungal infections on the skin can usually be treated with creams, ointments, or powders. But infections occurring inside the body may need to be treated with drugs taken in the form of a tablet, capsule, liquid, or vaginal suppository or by injection. Examples of such infections include candidiasis (also known as thrush or yeast infection], histoplasmosis, and aspergillosis.Antifungals refer to a collection of medications utilized in the treatment of infections caused by fungi. They are commonly employed to address various forms of tinea, such as athlete's foot and scalp ringworm, as well as candidiasis (thrush) and infrequent infections like cryptococcosis that affect internal organs. Antifungal medications are available in diverse forms, including tablets, injections, creams, and pessaries.Antifungal medications operate by impairing the cell walls of fungi, leading to the release of crucial chemicals necessary for normal cell function and growth. As a result, the fungal cells become unable to survive without these essential chemicals.Topical antifungal medications seldom produce side effects, but in some cases, they may occasionally exacerbate skin irritation. However, in cases of extended oral or injectable treatment for severe fungal infections, there is a potential for side effects such as liver or kidney damage.
</oembed>
