A virus discovered in Utah in 1956 which causes spontaneous abortion in sheep and cattle. The virus is found throughout the western United States. Rare cases of Cache Valley virus infection are reported in humans in the western states; the first case in the southeast was reported in 1996. A mosquito is believed to be the vector for the disease.
