Formerly part of American federal law ( 1 959 Delaney amendment to Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act), it was eliminated during 1 996. The Delaney Clause had set a zero-risk tolerance level for carcinogenic pesticide residues in processed foods.A clause in the U.S. Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act that bans any additive that causes cancer when it is consumed by animals or humans.
