A genital ulcer refers to a damaged area of skin on the genitalia that can be caused by various factors. The most common culprits are sexually transmitted infections, particularly genital herpes or syphilis. Additionally, tropical bacterial infections like chancroid and granuloma inguinale can lead to genital ulcers. Lymphogranuloma venereum, a bacterial infection (CHLAMYDIA), may also result in genital blisters. Behçet's syndrome is a rare condition that causes tender, recurrent ulcers in both the mouth and genital region. Moreover, cancer of the penis or vulva may initially present as a painless ulcer with raised edges.
