The skin patches are thick, dry, and leathery and may be darker or redder than the surrounding skin. The areas most commonly affected are easily reached, such as the nape of the neck and the outer part of the lower legs.Regions of skin that have thickened, are itchy, and occasionally exhibit discoloration due to repetitive scratching. Common areas affected include the neck, wrist, elbow regions, and ankles. Lichen simplex is more prevalent among women and often associated with stress. Treatment involves the use of oral antihistamine medications and creams containing corticosteroid compounds. Additionally, addressing any underlying stress or anxiety might be incorporated into the treatment approach.A skin condition of psychogenic origin characterized by sudden onset. Each episode can persist for weeks, months, or even years, with seasonal recurrences being common. The itching is relentless, particularly worsening at night, and excessive scratching can lead to skin redness or a nettle rash-like appearance. Subsequently, papules, which are small and poorly defined and can range in color from pale to red, appear on the affected skin. The scratched areas may become deeply pigmented, showing clear signs of damage, and are vulnerable to secondary infections by bacteria. In some cases, this condition is linked to asthma, hay fever, bronchitis, and overall health issues. It is also known as common prurigo.
