Often referred to as toxic epidermal necrolysis, Lyell's syndrome is a severe drug reaction that causes the skin, mucous membranes, and internal organ linings, like the bladder and intestine, to blister and shed. Some drugs linked to this condition are penicillin, carbamazepine, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Individuals with Lyell’s syndrome typically need intensive care unit treatment.
