They are given in three parts which are generally taken during the second and final years of medical school and the internship year. Successful completion of the national boards is a requirement for licensure as a physician in some States and an acceptable alternative to the State's own medical examinations in other States.Examinations administered to test the qualifications of medical, dental, and other professional students. Successful completion of the basic science and clinical parts of the examinations is required for licensure in most states.
