The contractions, which disappear during sleep and motion, may occur 10 to 50 times each minute. Usually the condition develops spontaneously, but it has been known to follow fright, trauma, infectious diseases, and poliomyelitis.An uncommon condition with an unknown origin, typically seen in adults and characterized by irregular and rapid muscle twitches. It is believed that the disease originates in the nerve centers of the brain.
