Muscle of the posterior thigh.A muscle of the anterior thigh (the anterior, central component of the quadriceps femoris) originating on the iliac spine and the upper margin of the acetabulum and inserted in the tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament. It extends the leg, contributes to flexion of the thigh, and is controlled by the femoral nerve.
