Increase in all metabolic activities in a soft or hard tissue (including modeling and remodeling activity in the skeleton) that is initiated by a provocative stimulus (e.g., fracture, crush injury). Typical RAP is induced by periosteal stimulation. A local response to a stimulus in which tissues form 2–10 times more rapidly than the normal regeneration process. The duration and intensity of RAP are directly proportional to the kind and amount of stimulus and the site where it was produced.
</oembed>
