Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (codified at 29 U.S.C.A. sec 794) prohibits discrimination against a qualified individual based solely on their disability. The Act only applies to institutions which receive federal funds. The most controversial employment issue is whether this Act applies to individuals with HIV or other communicable diseases. This Act was significantly expaned by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
