Bleeding into the space between the dura mater and the arachnoid membranes that cover the brain; due to injury or illness.Bleeding into the space between the two outer membranes (called the dura mater and the arachnoid) of the three membranes covering the brain. Blood leaking from the outermost membrane, the dura mater, is caused by ruptured blood vessels, usually small veins. The blood seeps slowly into the space between the two membranes and collects there, forming a blood clot, or subdural hematoma. Subdural hemorrhage is usually caused by a blow to the head or other head injury. Symptoms may include drowsiness, confusion, persistent headache, listlessness, imbalance, vomiting, and weakness or numbness on one side of the body. Over a few days or several weeks, these symptoms may appear. Prompt medical attention is essential.
</oembed>
