A sound produced during systole which indicates an unusual condition of a heart valve.A systolic heart murmur is a sound produced by the heart, identifiable by a healthcare provider, that occurs during the contraction phase of the heartbeat known as systole.A systolic murmur typically results from the reverse flow of blood through the mitral or tricuspid valves, which separate the heart's upper and lower chambers. Another possible cause is a form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy known as hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, which narrows the exit pathway from the left ventricle. Issues with heart valves, like the hardening (sclerosis) or constriction (stenosis) of the aortic or pulmonary valves, can also be contributing factors.
