It is also a vasoconstrictor (a substance that causes the constriction of blood vessels).Two compounds, thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and thromboxane B2 (TXB2), exist. TXA2 is a highly potent trigger of platelet aggregation and platelet release responses. It also acts as a vasoconstrictor. Platelets produce TXA2, but it is very unstable and quickly breaks down into TXB2 through a non-enzymatic hydrolysis process. TXB2 is inactive and has a short half-life of 30 seconds.
