There are a number of cis and trans isomers of this 18 carbon fatty acid with the double bonds at 9 and 11 or at 10 and 12 or 11 and 13. Common in dairy fat is the cis 9-trans 11 conjugated linolenic acid.Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) refers to a variety of isomers of linoleic acid containing conjugated diene units in which two double bonds are separated by only two carbons. The predominant isomer presents the double bonds of the fatty acid in the cis-9 and trans-11 positions. CLA molecules are found in our foods, primarily in meat and dairy products. Average daily intake has been estimated to be approximately 150 mg for women and 200 mg for men.A mixture of isomers of linoleic acid found to have anticancer, antiobesity, antidiabetic, and antiatherogenic effects in laboratory rodents. CLAs have not been shown to have similar beneficial effects in humans."}
