Lens dislocation can be present at birth; it may develop as the result of diseases such as syphilis or Marfan syndrome that weaken the fibers holding the lens in place; or it can result from injury to the eye. Treatment depends on the position of the dislocated lens and its effect on vision. If vision is affected, the lens can be removed surgically. A synthetic lens is implanted in the normal lens position and takes over its function.Shifting of the crystalline lens from its usual position within the eye occurs primarily as a result of an injury that tears the fibers connecting the lens to the ciliary body. This phenomenon of lens dislocation is predominantly observed when these fibers are compromised, which is often the case for individuals with the genetic condition known as Marfan syndrome. In these individuals, the fibers are inherently fragile, leading to a higher incidence of lens dislocation.The displacement of the lens can result in significant visual distortion or the perception of double vision. Should the lens shift forward, it has the potential to induce a type of glaucoma characterized by heightened pressure within the eyeball, particularly if the outflow of fluid from the front of the eye is impeded. In cases where glaucoma becomes severe, the option of lens removal might be considered."}
