He was born on May 23, 1847, at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England, attended St. John\u2019s College at Cambridge University, and pursued his medical studies at St. Thomas\u2019s Hospital in London. In 1879 he was appointed head of electrotherapy at St. Thomas\u2019s. He joined the Royal College of Physicians in 1883 and spent most of the rest of his life in private practice.Kilner had become aware of Karl Von Reichenbach\u2019s reports of having seen a luminous radiation around both the poles of magnets and human hands. Various psychics had reported radiations coming from human bodies, but there was little hope at the time that scientists could verify these reports or reproduce the phenomena.
