A streak, line, or thin band. The striae gravidarum are the lines that appear on the skin of the abdomen of pregnant women, due to stretching and rupture of the elastic fibers. Pinkish during pregnancy, they become white after delivery. The stria terminalis is a white band that separates the thalamus from the ventricular surface of the caudate nucleus in the brain.<\/p>\n

Termed as stretch marks or striae, these are lines that develop on the skin due to the thinning and reduced elasticity of the dermis. Initially, striae manifest as red and elevated lines, later transitioning to a purple hue, and eventually fading into shiny, silvery streaks.<\/p>\n
During the growth spurt in adolescence, striae frequently emerge on the shoulders of boys and on the hips and thighs of athletic girls. They commonly occur during pregnancy, appearing on the breasts, thighs, and lower abdomen. In cases of Cushing’s syndrome, purple striae become a distinctive hallmark.<\/p>\n
The origin of these marks is believed to be linked to an abundance of corticosteroid hormones, which diminish the amount of collagen (fibrous tissue) within the skin. While there is no established method for prevention, laser treatment might be employed in certain instances.<\/p>\n
