A decongestant medication employed to alleviate symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever; see allergic rhinitis) and the ordinary cold. When utilized as eye drops, it serves to widen the pupils for eye examinations. Extended use of the nasal preparations in high doses may lead to headaches and blurred vision. Abrupt discontinuation of the drug could exacerbate nasal congestion. As such, it is not advisable to use phenylephrine for more than a week.<\/p>\n
