Archaeology (from the Greek meaning \u201cstudy of ancient things\u201d) is a comparatively young discipline dating from the rediscovery and first excavations of Pompeii in the 18th century. Initially it was little more than an organized treasure hunt, but from the early 19th century onward, the subject became less entrepreneurial and more academic. Along with its developing academic status, a much more systemized scientific approach developed; nevertheless the psychics stayed working alongside the subject, using the same age-old processes they had used from the start.<\/p>\n
