A permission granted to an individual or organization by competent authority, usually public, to engage in a practice, occupation or activity otherwise unlawful. licensure is the process by which the license is granted. Since a license is needed to begin lawful practice, it is usually granted on the basis of examination and or proof of education rather then measures of performance. License when given is usually permanent but may be conditioned on annual payment of a fee, proof of continuing education, or proof of competence. Common grounds for revocation of a license include incompetence, commission of a crime (whether or not related to the licensed practice^ or moral turpitude. Possession of a medical license from one State may {reciprocity) or may not suffice to obtain a license from another. There is no national licensure system for health professionals , although requirements are often so nearly standardized as to constitute a national system.<\/p>\n
