A list of 12 standard ethical principles that describe and define considerate and ethical treatment that should be provided in a hospital or nursing home.<\/p>\n

A statement adopted by the American Hospital Association (AHA) in 1973 giving some 12 “rights” to which it felt that hospital patients were entitled. These include the right of the patient to be included in making treatment decisions, to be treated with dignity, to have privacy, and so forth. In several states, legislation has been passed codifying and augmenting these rights; some states extend these rights to non-hospitalized patients.<\/p>\n
