An immunologist diagnoses, manages, and treats conditions and diseases related to the immune system. This physician has completed training to become an internist or pediatrician and has then completed at least two additional years of study and training, called a fellowship, in the medical specialty known as immunology. Immunologists can then take an examination from the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI) to become ABAI certified. Many immunologists manage and treat allergic diseases and may be referred to as allergists.<\/p>\n
