A part of the routine lumbar puncture procedure. It is used to determine whether or not the flow of cerebrospinal fluid is blocked in the spinal canal.<\/p>\n
A method formerly used to test for spinal narrowing. A lumbar puncture is performed and the pressure of the cerebrospinal fluid measured. An assistant presses on the patient’s jugular veins in the neck; this should cause the pressure to rise rapidly, except in the case of spinal stenosis. The test is now superseded by MRI scanning.<\/p>\n
