A small peptide hormone produced by the corpus luteum of the ovary during the first and second trimesters of pregnancy. It is structurally similar to insulin with two peptide chains (A and B). The role of this hormone is unclear; it has been noticed to increase just prior to parturition (birth).<\/p>\n
