Xeroderma

Excessive dryness of the skin due to a slight increase of the horny layer and diminished cutaneous secretion.

Excessive dryness of the skin.

A skin disorder where dry scales form on the skin.

Abnormal dryness and roughness of the skin; also called xerodermia.

A mild form of the hereditary disorder ‘ichthyosis, in which the skin develops slight dryness and forms branlike scales.

Dry skin. Normal skin may become dry when exposed to very low humidity and is then vulnerable to irritation by soaps, detergents and other chemicals which cause ‘chapping’. Dryness of the skin may also be a feature of skin disease, especially atopic eczema. Genetically determined xeroderma is called ichthyosis.
