Zakuski

Within the realm of Tsarist Russia, a remarkable culinary tradition emerged in the form of Russian appetizers. These appetizers, more than mere preludes to a meal, constituted a lavish feast in their own right. Delicately arranged within a designated chamber, a grand assortment awaited, featuring an abundance of epicurean delights. Among the highlights were various types of caviar, the ethereal blinis, tantalizing smoked sausages, chilled meats, pickled fish, tvoroinki (cheese dumplings), and an endless array of other hors d’oeuvres. Accompanied by copious amounts of vodka, this symphony of flavors and libations formed a harmonious union, inviting indulgence and celebration.
