Long chain fatty acids are fatty acids having aliphatic tail containing 13 and 21 carbon atoms. It is insoluble in water and a weakly acidic compound. It is present in small amounts in plants and animals and in some marine fish, it is a major fatty acids. It is found in the membrane of red blood cells and concentration is higher in children with autism which makes it an essential biomarker.
