It is present in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/palm-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">palm oil<\/a> derived from Elaeis guineensis. It acts as a neuroprotective agent and also a plant metabolite. It is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/nutrition\/vitamin-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vitamin E<\/a> and tocotrienol. In early 1980s, its biological significance was clearly delineated when its ability to reduce cholesterol was first reported by Elson and Qureshi in Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. During 1990s, anti-cancer properties of tocopherols and tocotrienols began to be depicted. Rice and palm are the current commercial sources of tocotrienol. Other natural sources include coconut oil, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/health-benefits-of-rice-bran-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rice bran oil<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/barley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">barley<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/cocoa-butter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cocoa butter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthbenefitstimes.com\/wheat-germ-oil\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wheat germ<\/a>.
