The feeling that something is pulling on the windpipe when the person breathes in, a symptom of aneurysm.
A sign that is indicative of an aneurysm of the aortic arch: a downward tug is felt on the windpipe when the finger is placed in the midline at the root of the neck.
A slight downward movement of the trachea with each inspiratory effort, resulting from descent of the diaphragm in a person with a low, flat diaphragm. This sign may also be present as a result of the proximity of an aortic aneurysm to the trachea. It should not be confused with the pulsations from a normal vessel beneath the trachea.
A physical indication observed in instances of aortic aneurysm where the trachea is visibly pulled with each heartbeat.
