Technetium-pyrophosphate scanning

A test done to determine whether and to what extent heart muscle has been damaged after a heart attack. The test is done by injecting intravenously first a tracer isotope, and, several hours later, a radioactive chemical. A scintillation camera or scanner is then used to take multiple images of the heart. The results indicate whether and to what extent the patient’s heart muscle is damaged.
