A central nervous system stimulant drug. Methamphetamine hydrochloride (Desoxyn) has limited medical uses, such as for the treatment of narcolepsy (sudden attacks of deep sleep), attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and obesity. Methamphetamine hydrochloride is powerfully addictive and affects the central nervous system, causing increased activity, decreased appetite, and a feeling of well-being that is often followed by a state of high agitation that can turn into violent behavior. Because it is easily prepared in illegal laboratories with inexpensive ingredients, methamphetamine hydrochloride has a high potential for drug abuse.
A sympathomimetic drug used as a stimulant or weight-loss promoter. It is a controlled substance that causes euphoria and has a high potential for abuse.
