An antiviral drug. Rimantadine hydrochloride (Flumadine, Roflual) is used to prevent or treat influenza type A. Rimantadine hydrochloride may be given alone or in combination with flu shots. Rimantadine hydrochloride is not effective against the common cold, other types of flu, or some viral infections.
