Muscular atrophy

Atrophy of muscle tissue, especially due to lack of use or denervation.

Muscle weakness and reduction in muscle tissue size can occur due to various factors. Muscular atrophy can stem from different sources such as injuries, inadequate nutrition, diminished use of a body part, deterioration of muscle cells, and conditions affecting the nerves that provide signals to muscles.

Muscles have the potential to undergo rapid atrophy when a particular body part remains inactive and no preventive actions are implemented. For instance, in the case of a fractured leg, observable muscle deterioration might occur within a mere week. It’s worth noting that the muscle fibers themselves are not permanently lost; they can regain their usual state through stimulation and usage of the muscle.
