Endemic syphilis

Chronic, nonvenereal syphilis infection of childhood. It is characterized in its early stages by mucocutaneous or membrane lesions. Later, gummas of bone and skin occur. The causative organism is T. pallidum. Penicillin is the treatment of choice.
