Enteric cytopathogenic human orphan virus

A virus that was accidentally discovered in human feces and is not known to be associated with a disease; thus the name “orphan.” Initially, 33 echovirus serotypes were designated, but numbers 10 and 28 have been reclassified. Various serotypes have been associated with aseptic meningitis, encephalitis, acute upper respiratory infection, enteritis, pleurodynia, and myocarditis.
