An EpiPen is a commercially available device that combines a needle and a syringe pre-filled with a dose of epinephrine, also known as adrenaline. This device is utilized for quick delivery to prevent or treat severe allergic reactions that could potentially be life-threatening. The design of the EpiPen enables individuals at risk of these severe reactions to self-administer the adrenaline, typically injected into a thigh muscle.
Individuals identified as susceptible to anaphylactic reactions should always have an EpiPen on hand and be trained on how to use it. In addition, family members, close friends, teachers, colleagues, and other individuals who frequently interact with them should also be well-informed and knowledgeable about how to administer the EpiPen.
