Exogenous

Due to external source or cause; not developing from within the organism.

Developed or originating outside the organism, as exogenous disease.

Originating or beginning outside the organism. Contrast with endogenous.

Plants with stems composed of bark, wood and pith, i. e., “ outside growing.”

Factors originating or produced by the social or physical environments.

Developing or caused by something outside the organism.

Outside the body; for example, exogenous obesity is caused by overeating, not by bodily malfunction (compare endogenous).

Originating outside the body or part of the body: applied particularly to substances in the body that are derived from the diet rather than built up by the body’s own processes of metabolism. Compare endogenous.

Arising outside the body. For example, exogenous depression is an illness caused by an outside factor such as the death of a close relative; an exogenous illness may occur because of something eaten in the diet.

An exogenous condition refers to a disease or disorder that originates from factors outside the body. This can include instances like infections, poisonings, or injuries.
