Viennese lay psychoanalyst and early follower of Freud. “The Trauma of Birth,” his major book, was published in 1924. He emigrated to the United States in 1935 and strongly influenced the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center and the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work.
