Epicardium

Thin, transparent outer layer of the heart wall.

Serous membrane on the surface of the myocardium.

The inner layer of the pericardium which lines the walls of the heart, outside the myocardium.

Innermost of the two layers of the pericardium, the membranous covering of the heart.

The outermost layer of the heart wall, enveloping the myocardium. It is a serous membrane that forms the inner layer of the serous pericardium.

The serous membrane on the surface of the myocardium; the visceral layer of the pair of serous pericardial membranes. The fat that normally surrounds the heart is just under the epicardium.

The epicardium is the outermost layer of the heart wall, which is one of the three layers that compose it. This smooth, membranous structure surrounds the myocardium, which is the muscular layer of the heart.
