Exercise (exercise training)

A single acute bout of bodily exertion or muscular activity that requires an expenditure of energy above resting level and that in most, but not all, cases results in voluntary movement.


Planned, structured, and repetitive bodily movement done to improve or maintain one or more components of physical fitness.


Training can emphasize skill enhancement or physical fitness improvement. Comprehensive fitness training should encompass both aerobic and anaerobic exercises, which collectively enhance strength, flexibility, and endurance. Interval training involves repeated execution of a specific exercise with intervals of rest in between. Circuit training entails performing a predetermined set of diverse exercises.
