Emotional disturbance

A condition characterized by the inability to learn, relate to others, or overcome depression.

Emotional disturbance represents a broad category of psychological difficulties that have also been referred to as internalizing or externalizing disorders. Emotional disturbance usually includes symptoms of anxiety and depression, but it can include symptoms consistent with a psychotic disorder, such as sensory hallucinations. It is characterized by an emotional disturbance of sufficient severity to interfere significantly with a child’s academic, social, and emotional functioning.
