Mobility

The movement of people from one position in a system or stratification to another.


(Of patients) the ability to move about.


The ability of the body to put into movement or make mobile its various parts by use of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and joints. Fractures, arthritic changes in joints, and other ailments that affect the principal bone and muscle groups, including the hip, knee, ankle, and back, can impair the body’s general mobilization. Also called mobilization, moving the body or its individual parts is sometimes as important to healing as resting injured parts of the body. A doctor’s directions regarding mobility should be followed.


State or quality of being mobile; facility of movement. In rehabilitation, mobility refers to an individual’s ability to move within a living environment, including the community.
