Multifactorial

Referring to many variables concurrently influencing the development, maintenance, or operation of a phenomenon.


Involving several different factors or elements.


Referring to inheritance which depends on more than one gene. Height and weight are examples of characteristics determined by multifactorial inheritance.


To a disease or condition resulting from the interaction of many factors, especially many genes.


Describing a condition that is believed to have resulted from the interaction of genetic factors, usually polygenes, with an environmental factor or factors. Many disorders, e.g. spina bifida and anencephaly, are thought to be multifactorial.


The result of many factors, as in a disease resulting from the combined effects of several components.
