A finger which cannot be straightened because the tendon attaching the top joint has been torn.
Deformation of a finger due to sudden forced flexion (bending) of the terminal joint, leading to rupture of the tendon. As a result the individual is unable to extend (straighten) the terminal part of the finger, which remains bent forwards. The middle, ring and little fingers are most commonly involved. Treatment is by splinting the finger and the end result is generally satisfactory.
A flexion deformity of the distal joint of a finger, caused by avulsion of the extensor tendon.
Damage to the tendon or bone at the tip of a fingertip, causing it to become bent. This is a frequent sports-related injury that happens when a ball impacts the finger.
Treatment involves using a splint or temporarily inserting a wire through the bones to maintain the finger’s straight position. The injury typically takes around two to three months to fully heal.
