Melanoderma

A large amount of melanin in the skin.

Discoloration of patches of the skin.

Abnormal darkening of the skin caused by increased melanin deposits.

Any of several malignant neoplasms, primarily of the skin, consisting of melanocytes. Most melanomas develop from a pigmented nevus (mole); any change in color or shape of such a mark suggests melanoma. The incidence of melanoma has increased 93% since 1980. Ultraviolet radiation exposure (e.g., from the sun or tanning salons) is believed to be a primary cause. Prognosis depends on the location, depth, and size of the lesion, and on the general health of the patient.

A patchy or generalized skin discoloration caused by either an increase in the production of melanin by the normal number of melanocytes or an increase in the number of melanocytes.

Unusual skin coloring or discoloration.
